Septaria looks like opaque multicoloured agglomerate of warm colours, resembling the shell of a turtle because of a complex system of intersecting and branching cracks, where various minerals are crystallized: calcite, aragonite, chalcedony, dolomite, barite, quartz, or pyrite.
Meaning
The mineral has several names. The official one is due to the original structure of the stone: "septum" is translated from Latin as "partition". The unofficial one is "tortoiseshell stone".
